That Conversation...


It's here ; barely 3 weeks until we 'GO' ! Hard to believe that only a few months ago we had 'THAT CONVERSATION' which lead to :-
  1. Buying a Van
  2. Selling the House
  3. Leaving our Jobs
Crazy,Brave,Bonkers,Courageous,Insane and all the other superlatives that describe our states of mind or do they ?
Perhaps I should return to that list.....

 Mid June  - Seachange Plan initiated
                 - Test Drive Van @ Trakka HQ,Sydney
                 - Significant Birthday
                 - Significant times; de-clutter,sell and give away. 
                 - Kitchen renovation.......STRESS !! 😱
End July   - House to Market
Mid Sept  - House SOLD ! ......This S**T just got real !
November- Moving Out and waiting......

The ultimate plan of driving around Australia had always been there ; a conversation starter and a dream not yet realised. When should we do it? How would we do it? Could we achieve it? What would it look like? How would we travel? Would our relationship survive? How would Dennis cope? What about all the things that can kill you in Australia?

 These questions usually stemmed after a large glass of wine or two sitting in our old VW Kombi ...🍷

  "'ave yer seen me friend? she's really, really tall, she's got bits o' ceilin' stuck in 'er 'air"; this bit of comedy genius was what I thought of when I heard the name 'Kimberley'.  In the last few weeks however, we have witnessed ' The Kimberley' in all her glory.   Firstly, some factoids: - 423,517 square kilometres or, to put it another way, 3 times the size of England or slightly smaller than California - first peopled about 40,000 years ago but the neighbourhood went downhill about 250 years ago when some Europeans arrived  - there are 4 LGAs (Local Government Area - a name most people from NSW are becoming too aware of). Capricorn Way Highlights - Gone 'troppo' along the Tropic of Capricorn

673 kilometres of highway connecting East Coast Queensland to Outback Queensland that generally follows the Tropic of Capricorn....simples ! We figured it was rude not to; what's not to love about a long straight bitumen (tarmac for UK readers) road with towns along the route that have stuff to see and do. Rockhampton is the official start of the route but we started it from the actual coastal town of Yeppoon. Supplies were all replenished in Rockhampton resulting in an overnighter in a great free camp on the fringe of an amazing oasis of greenery and artificial waterfalls. And then the planning; a list of possible 'must sees' which, amazingly, became absolute highlights of the route and, best of all,  some complete surprises too... Fossicking and Mines, Museums,Murals and Sculptures, it had it all. Mining, and in particular large scale mining, is an ongoing issue and discussion point for us as we travel through Australia and I don't think our view will change anytime ...
